The lead proponent for the twin-sheet ice sports facility in Canberra -- Cruachan Investments' Stephen Campbell -- today told ABC 666 Breakfast Program's 75 000 listeners he and developers Pelligra Group were prepared to "walk away" from the project if they didn't reach a resolution with the ACT Government.

Program host Ross Solly interviewed Campbell shortly before 8am following an interview with ACT Sport Minister Yvette Berry in which she outlined her and the government's steadfast commitment to the new Tuggeranong facility.

Campbell outlined several reasons why he and Pelligra no longer wanted to build the new facility at the site specifically set aside for the rink more than three years ago when his company and Pelligra were awarded rights to progress what by then had been a seven-year campaign by ACT Ice Sports Federation.

The Heads of Agreement in 2022 specifically detailed the Rowland Rees Crescent site in Greenway.

He said there were "many complications with the site" including complexity of the build, the difficulty of the site, and the resulting costs which influenced his and Pelligra's position.

"I'm happy to work with the government to realise the Tuggeranong facility vision but we don't believe it's the right spot," Campbell told Ross Solly. "Yeah, yeah, we're committed to that (Tuggeranong)," he added.

But when Solly asked for an on-air promise that Pelligra/Cruachan would build the twin-sheet ice sports facility in Tuggeranong, Campbell said the project would proceed only if they can get a finalised agreement with the ACT Government. He said he'd "like to think" they were close to an agreement.

But when asked if agreement could not be reached, were Pelligra/Cruachan prepared to walk away from the project, Campbell was unambiguous: "Yes, we are."

The full interview runs from 2:07:47 - 2:16:50 in the following link:
